Sync-across devices works well, good Spaced Repetition Algorithm, layout ok, high numbers of cards possible per deck, good existing online decks (geography, music etc). Good work, keep it up!
so far, this is the best app Ive found for my iDevices. it syncs nicely and the spaced repetition is great. The only thing Id want it to have is better editing features on mobile devices (The Mac version is great for that) such as marking a card as due or easily changing tags on the go.
This app is amazing. The desktop version has been around for many years, and its still one of the best and most popular flashcard programs out there (desktop version is free). As a medicine student I literally use this for hours on a daily basis. The compatibility with the desktop version allows you to make cards really fast on the computer then easily synch them across (something which Flashcards Deluxe unfortunately doesnt have), and with the "Cloze" feature you are able to make 5+ cards in a matter of seconds. If you need to make a lot of cards really fast, no app beats this one. And the spaced repetition system is much more efficient that constantly reading the things in your notes that you already know...
Even more better now. The best card learning system (study, language, ...)
super app, best app ever written, but wouldnt it be still better with split view functionality? The world is not enough! ;-) Update some days later: And zack! The update has come. Everything perfect now! I knew what I did as I buyed it. You have to check the personality behind software and to wait - just what I did, thats all the secret: The personality was sympathetic and correct, and so is the app now: congenial! I knew it.
I have bought Anki on Apple Store to access only to its Cloze deletion button. Unfortunately AnkiMobile does not include Cloze deletion button!!!
Is awesome and I dont know why (okay I do but for newbies it otherwise it would be better) it isnt on per default
I know the price seems steep at first, but honestly, if youre looking for the ultimate flash card app that gives you an unparalleled control over the material you want to learn, then Anki is for you. Mind the "IF" in the last sentence. It takes time to master the more advanced techniques of presenting and managing content. The mobile client can handle HTML5 and JavaScript (albeit some functionalities known from desktop browsers are not available (partly) due to security restrictions on iOS), which basically means that you can design your flash card templates like you would design a website and you can even interact with the content. The possibilities are endless. Batch import/export functions let you prepare complex custom content in 3rd party software, e.g. a spreadsheet editor. The app can handle pictures, audio and video too. And the plethora of add-on for the desktop client facilitates the creation of complex custom content even further. Its worth to mention here the desktop software. The iOS app is chiefly intended for revisions on the go, although the last update makes great advances into ensuring a consistent editing experience. Still, the mobile app still requires a desktop app for more advanced options. Both the desktop app, as well as the mobile client use the dedicated cloud services allowing for syncs between the devices, which is completely free of charge. The mobile version allows you to create new cards, but I cannot imagine creating more advance content with the mobile client - itd be too much bother, not so much due to Ankis limitations, but due to the limitations of iOS devices. Maybe with multitasking and improved input methods (Bluetooth keyboards, styluses, etc. you can make the job less toilsome, but I still strongly advise anyone to do the serious editing on their desktops). So, all in all, for the one-time price youre not just getting one app, but a suite of applications across different platforms, access to a number of free useful add-ons, ready-made shared decks, syncing cloud service with lifetime unlimited online storage (at least for now) and a great support (I should know, Ive been pestering the developer with quite a number of requests for improvements to existing or even completely new features, and Ive always received a helpful reply). That said, there are still some areas that could be improved: - more support for JavaScript - support for offline Google Swiffy HTML5 animations to make up for missing flash animation on iOS devices would be great - improving complete syncing of collections over 100 MB These are, however, only cherries on top not warranting deducting even a single star from the rating. And in case youre wondering : YES, I do have an ulterior motive to write this lengthy and overall positive review of the app. Im trying to convince you to buy this app because I would hate to see this project discontinued one day. In fact, I donate the price of the app to the developer every year to incentivize the developer to keep this project running (voting with your wallet is the best testimony there is, isnt it?). Ive been using Anki for a few years now to learn Chinese, English, German and a number of other subjects across the board and I can testify to how using the software has improved my capability to memorize new content.
Ive used Anki for 2,5 years. Since then Ive managed to learn two foreign languages. I tested this app through and through and I can say its the best app Ive ever installed on my mobile. The possibilities of adjusting this app are endless, and this is what I love about Anki. Youre not constrained while entering your data like it happens in other similar apps. Hats off to those who developed it and I hope this project will last forever. A big thank you.
My wife and I have been using the PC version of Anki for about three years now as part of our personal studies. Ive been trying to learn Japanese and shes been trying to become a medical clerk. By using Anki, my wife aced her medical terminology course (average of 98% and English is her second language) and my Japanese vocabulary has grown from an embarrassing couple hundred words to over seven thousand that I can now read and recall nearly instantly. Spaced Repetition is the best way to build and retain any list of facts, words, or concepts, and Anki is the simplest, fastest, and most flexible application Ive every found to do it with. The iPhone version seems to be working well and Im so glad its finally available!
Anki is the best study tool Ive ever had the pleasure to use. AnkiMobile is a solid mobile version for studying away from your computer. Now on the second major update in about a month (adding huge new features and speed improvements), AnkiMobile has some of the best software support I have ever seen! Definately worth the cost.
Finally! I have been using Anki with iAnki on the iTouch for a year now to study my Greek and have been hoping for a native iPhone version. It was a piece of cake to download my decks. It is well worth the price. I am a developer myself and contrary to popular belief programs dont grow on trees and $.99 is not a reasonable price for a useful application. If you actually use a program, it is worth supporting the developer. Good job Damien.
I know, I think this app is great but it just isnt worth 25$. On the pc version there are graphs and you can download decks without having to log in to your account. It does its basic purpose but for 25$ I hope that it gets upgraded to at least pc standard.
Im a long time Anki user and this portable iPhone version complements the desktop version perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone who is already familiar with the desktop application and would like to do their flashcards on the go. As it does take some time to get used to how Anki works, new users would be better served trying out the free desktop application first. For me, AnkiMobile is exactly what I need to study my flashcards whenever and wherever I want. 5 stars!
Definitely a must have for anki users. If you havent used the desktop version of anki Id start there (google it), but if you are already an anki user this is definitely worth it. Now Im doing reviews whenever I have a spare moment and Im no longer having problems finishing my cards for the day. Much appreciated.
A little buggy... But after 1.5 years of using Anki on my pc and then finally getting the iPhone version all I can say is IT WAS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE EVER DONE FOR MY JAPANESE STUDIES. I can study anywhere so I do a lot more reps now in my downtime. Also combine Anki with subs2srs and your language study will be unstoppable Mwahahaha ;)
Had it a week. Excellent app so far. $25 is a little steep for my pocket; Burnt a small hole in my pocket. But would definitely recommend this app, especially if one is not severely financially restricted.
I do think $25 seems a little expensive for this app, but Ive been using it for a couple years now and wouldnt be without it. When you combine the features of the desktop version for making and customizing decks with the ability to sync online then use it on your apple device, its unbeatable. I spent days trying out every other flashcard app there was and nothing compared to this. The ability to backup your deck alone is worth the money considering how much time it takes to make them.
I ride the bus for an hour twice a day. This is the perfect app for my commute. Really couldnt ask for more. If I ever get to point that I can actually speak French I will owe it all to Damien
